This is our first evaluation report, documenting our national pilot programme of community cinemas and filmmaking workshops for homeless people. The results provide an overview of Open Cinema’s theoretical and practical methods, and an in-depth evaluation of the programmes delivered at four of the nine centres that participated in the pilot. The report includes:
• An overview of research in the field of arts and homelessness, forming a basis of support for Open Cinema’s work
• Evidence of the effectiveness of Open Cinema’s services as tools for engaging homeless people
• Evidence of improvements in ‘soft outcomes’ for participants, such as the development of inspiration and confidence
• Areas for future development and evaluation.
